MK Irish returned to winning ways on Saturday after a 3-2 victory over Tring Athletic at Manor Fields.
A fairly even opening 10 minutes saw few chances, the best of which fell to Irish as Boland saw an effort blocked and Muzzy headed over from a corner. The home side then opened the scoring on 14 minutes, after a scrappy midfield battle resulted in Smyth heading the ball over the Tring back line, where Lawless found himself onside and able to direct a half-volley across the keeper and into the net. MK Irish keeper Jack Taylor remained untroubled until the 25th minute when visitors Tring started to grow into the game. Tring’s number 10, who would prove to be a thorn in Irish’s side throughout, cut inside well and fired towards goal, forcing Taylor into a good save to preserve his team’s advantage. Five minutes before half time, the lead was doubled. Up from the back for a corner, Scott Dummett was fouled and Lawless stepped up to convert from the spot and grab his second of the afternoon.
