MK Irish produced an impressive performance to see off play-off chasing Biggleswade Town at Manor Fields, securing a deserved 3–1 victory in their penultimate home game of the season.
The visitors, kicking with the breeze in the first half, saw plenty of early possession but struggled to create clear chances. Irish’s first effort came through JJ Meadows, whose overhead kick was comfortably gathered by the goalkeeper.
Biggleswade threatened from set pieces, with deliveries into the box causing some pressure, but Irish defended well. At the other end, Owen Brooks began to cause problems with a series of strong runs, though a key challenge inside the box denied him a clear opportunity.
Irish gradually grew into the game and started to create more meaningful openings. Freddy Joyce delivered a dangerous cross that Brooks was unable to direct on target, while Meadows got across his marker from a corner but guided his effort wide.
The breakthrough came on 32 minutes. Mason Spence’s corner delivery found Clinton Zawe, who reacted quickest in the centre to steer the ball past the goalkeeper and give Irish a deserved lead.
Irish looked to build on their advantage before the break. Brooks raced through on goal after getting the better of his marker, but his effort was diverted wide, while another corner caused problems before being headed off target.
There was late controversy as Brooks was pulled back when through on goal, but play was allowed to continue and no further action was taken, much to Irish frustration.
Half Time: MK Irish 1–0 Biggleswade Town
The second half began with a lengthy stoppage after Matt Haworth required treatment following an aerial challenge, but he was able to continue after receiving treatment.
Irish continued to edge the game and doubled their lead on 57 minutes with a well-worked move. Brooks broke down the right and squared the ball across goal, where Meadows was on hand to finish from close range.
Just two minutes later, Irish struck again in similar fashion. Brooks again drove forward and delivered a low cross, and Meadows arrived unmarked at the back post to convert and make it 3–0.
Irish continued to create chances, with Meadows going close to completing his hat-trick after running onto a ball over the top, while Ryan Smith fired wide from the edge of the box following a good move.
Biggleswade attempted to respond, creating a handful of opportunities, but Irish remained solid defensively. A header from a set piece was cleared off the line, and another effort from distance drifted wide.
As the game moved into stoppage time, the visitors pulled a goal back from close range following a corner, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Irish nearly added a fourth late on. Kyle Boyce saw an ambitious effort drift just wide from distance before forcing a save after breaking into the box, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
