An excellent performance from start to finish saw a completely dominant MK Irish claim an 8-0 victory at home to Potton United on a chilly Tuesday night at Manor Fields.
JJ Meadows opened the scoring on 10 minutes, before a double from Andre Olukanmi, a cool finish from Mason Spence and a second from Meadows made it 5-0 at half time.
There was no let up for Potton in the second half as Olukanmi grabbed another to grab his hat-trick, an own goal and a wonderful team goal finished off by captain Ty Ward rounded off the 8-0 drubbing.
Terry Shrieves’ side were right at it from the first whistle and went close through George Shrieves after five minutes. The right winger danced past a couple of defenders and made some space for himself in the box, but his low effort on goal was saved well.
Midfielder Stephen Brooks was next to go close, driving into the box to try and latch onto Mason Spence’s cross, poking it towards goal and seeing a Potton defender get a good block in.
Just before the tenth minute of the game, the scoring was opened.
Ty Ward played George Shrieves in out wide, and so typical for this season he breezed past his man and delivered the perfect cross, where JJ Meadows was waiting to sweep the ball home for 1-0.
The home side kept their foot firmly on the gas and looked for more straight after. It was the same combination as Ward found Shrieves, who played it into Mason Spence in the box and his shot hit the post before being cleared.
Ty Ward was next to go close, whipping a shot from the edge of the box just over the bar.
Meadows then had a chance for his second, after some beautiful passing football worked it’s way to Shrieves on the right, again delivering a pinpoint cross which Meadows flashed just wide.
Irish could’ve been four up within 25 minutes as Meadows saw another effort go just off target, bearing down on goal after a perfectly timed run, cutting back onto his left foot but failing to convert.
After multiple near misses the second and third goals came in quick succession, both through Andre Olukanmi.
The first was a lovely finish, cutting in from the left wing and beating his man before firing into the bottom right corner on his right foot.
His second was equally impressive, this time popping up on the right wing and firing into the top corner on his left foot – and finally the scoreline started to reflect the MK Irish dominance.
Potton were already looking beaten and with just a couple of minutes to go until half time, any chance of a second half comeback would rely on them keeping it three before the break.
Irish had different ideas.
Mason Spence made it 4-0 with a cool finish before Meadows second of the game sent his side into the break 5-0 up.
Olukanmi sealed a wonderful performance by claiming his hat-trick, tapping in from close range after another devastating George Shrieves cross.
The seventh goal was a horror moment for opponents Potton, as the defender looked to play a simple pass back to his goalkeeper and instead found the bottom right corner of his own net.
And the night was capped with the best team goal of the evening.
Meadows drove with the ball down the left and played it inside to Spence, who played it off first time to Ty Ward before the captain took a touch and so calmly rolled it into the bottom corner to make it 8-0.
